Baby Shoe Size Chart by Age: Prewalkers to First Walkers
Baby Shoe Size Chart by Age
Baby feet grow fast — sometimes a full size every two to three months. Here's how to get the size right and know when your baby actually needs shoes.
Approximate Baby Shoe Size by Age
Use this as a starting point, then always measure:
| Age | Approx. EU Size | Foot Length |
|---|---|---|
| 0–6 months | 16–17 | ~10–10.5 cm |
| 6–9 months | 17–18 | ~11 cm |
| 9–12 months | 18–19 | ~11.5–12 cm |
| 1–2 years | 20–22 | ~12.5–13.5 cm |
| 2–3 years | 23–24 | ~14–15 cm |
Sizes vary by brand — always check the product page chart.
How to Measure at Home
- Place your baby's foot on a sheet of paper.
- Mark the heel and the longest toe.
- Measure the distance in cm.
- Add about 0.5 cm of growing room.
Do Newborns Need Shoes?
No — for non-walking babies, shoes are for warmth and style, not support. Soft prewalkers, booties, and anti-slip socks are ideal. Pediatric guidance generally recommends letting babies go barefoot indoors to support natural foot development (American Academy of Pediatrics).
When to Move to First Walking Shoes
Once your baby is walking confidently outdoors, choose flexible, lightweight shoes with a non-slip sole and enough room to wiggle toes.
